Goodness! Have you ever seen so many updates from me? Just trying to get caught up during some time off! We're back with an image of our beautiful A Rock on the cover. The house is full now with the addition last time of baby Rubellite, who joins her sisters Quetzalcoatlite, Qusongite, Ulexite, and Axinite plus their parents Quartz and Declan. And A Rock, of course. Let's jump back in...Looks like Declan just got a clue that Quartz had a whole baby. Very timely, Declan. A+. Also stellar is that painting behind the bed: we found it in a dumpster, and it was too perfect for two dog lovers to sell off.
Qusong: "Is what safe?"
Ulex: "Approaching a wild baby animal when you don't know where its mother is."
Qusong: "Just to be clear, are you talking about our baby sister and our own mother?"
Ulex: "Yah."
Qusong: "You are something else, Ulex."
Declan gets to meet Ru and is delighted. Quartz and Declan are such good parents, especially considering everything that's going on.
Look at this scene of family bliss. A Rock is being cared for, Ulex is being read to for her aspiration and in the hopes that she might learn to read herself by age 15 or so, and Qusong is chatting with everyone through it all. Declan is working outside and Axi is - where else? - by herself. Also please notice our goldfish on the yellow table. That is A Pebble.
Ah, and Quetzal is stargazing with a random adult man in short-shorts. It must be that special time of the social butterfly aspiration, the Stranger Danger Step.
Stargazer Guy had the temerity to come inside and eat our leftovers, so he was subjected to Axi's "ask why" interaction over and over since I'd like her family to still like her. Serves you right, dude.
The time has finally come for Axi's birthday! She's about to get a lot more socialization in a house full of little girls.
But then Axi is a little strange for this dog-loving family. Despite two of her siblings and both of her parents being dog lovers and them having a dog, Axi had to go and declare her independence by being a cat lover. That's one way to be a black sheep of a family, I suppose. Like Ulex, she wants to be a whiz kid, but somehow I think she might be a bit smarter. She was certainly a good skiller as a toddler. Axi looks a lot like Declan except for the lilac hair and eyes.
And then there's Ru, who is clingy. She grew up in her dad's hair texture and I really liked it on her, so I kept her in that kind of style. She's got the purple eyes, but she's the first kiddo to get blond hair from Declan. Surprising that it took this long! She looks a lot like most of her sisters, so I'm guessing more Quartz-like when she gets older. She has the same skintone as Axi.
Ru is a cutie-patootie and is perennially cheerful. Despite being clingy and even when she's unhappy, she can often be found smiling. Love it.
Qusong and Quetzal line up to befriend Johnathan, he of the luscious red locks, to work on their social aspirations, which Qusong finishes just in time. Quetzal still has to befriend one other adult. Meanwhile, A Rock is on hand to provide first aid for when Quartz crawls out of her fabricator-induced daze.
Quartz reached the step in her aspiration where she needed to harvest bugs, so we have bug farms now. Declan is lagging far behind in his aspiration due to perpetual failure at the fabricator, so he's just helping out since he's not at that stage yet.
And then it's back to the dumpsters for a bit to scrounge up more of the bits, which at this point just feel like a sacrificial offering to the fabricator, a fickle god.
Declan's birthday has come up already since he hasn't been constantly pregnant like Quartz, and he gets the leftover pink birthday cake from his daughters' birthdays. Happy birthday, Declan!
Ulex finishes Whiz Kid, which startles A Rock awake from a nap. He was dreaming she was smart, and then he woke up and she was being smart, so he's a little disoriented. Ulex's next aspiration is Rambunctious Scamp. Social Butterfly would have been more appropriate for her, but I just did that twice and it's too soon to do again.
When this guy (who is attempting - poorly - to steal Rhonin Quest's style) wouldn't get out of OUR dumpster, Quartz punishes him with a presentation on a roundabout. He was properly chastened, I think, because he blacked out from boredom while standing up.
Back home and after a good shower, the whole fam minus Ru is celebrating the twins' birthday. Ulex is there too but she's hiding behind her parents. I realized belatedly that Quetzal hadn't finished the last friend she needed for Social Butterfly, so she didn't finish her second aspiration, though Qusong did.
Qusong has a bit more difficulty styling herself.
Qusongite, once properly made over, is also looking very good! She wants to have a Vampire Family, so I gave her a bit edgier style. Besides being a vegetarian like their dad, she joins Ulex and Quetzal in being a dog lover. Now every child who is old enough to have this trait has it--except Axi, of course! Qusong is identical to Quetzal in every way facially, so she's also gorgeous.
Qusong got a slightly edgier style since she's going to be a vampire, and she's dressed in dark blues.
Speaking of vampires, we rolled up on Vlad, who was standing outside his house, but he poofed away. I was hopeful he had just poofed into the house, but he stood us up! Qusong came out here for nothing, but at least she did get a badass-looking picture out of it. We'll try again tomorrow.
Since we have teens now, they got to supervise taking Ulex to the park for her aspiration, and Axi got to come along on the first field trip in her young life.
Axi made the most of it by having a game of chess with Snowy Escape celebrity Megumi Ito. Not sure how she managed that when she's barely ever spoken to her family.
Ulex: "Whoa."
That's...your whole statement?
Ulex: "Uh-huh."
I guess Axi isn't the only one that can be succinct, although usually Ulex is a blabbermouth, so she must be stunned into almost-silence.
This park had a few planters and Quetzal had a packet of flowers in her inventory, so she gets started on planting some things for her aspiration.
Now that they're not dressing alike and following the same aspirations, these teens are already starting to diverge in their personalities. It's interesting to see where that will take them. Once everyone was done with their activities, we sent the children home so the teens could continue on their next quest.
Which for Quetzal was to light every fireplace in Vlad's house. Literally. She just went one to another, lighting them, and then played on her phone for the remainder of the visit.
Vlad: "Please, just Vlad. The texture on the jacket is actually quite nice for Maxis, all things considered."
Qusong: "Great! So we agree I'm cool enough to be a vampire. Now about that process..."
UGHHHHH. We had the bug where he couldn't do more than one interaction at a time before disappearing and then reappearing in a cloud of mist, and it took SO LONG to build up enough friendship with him. I was tearing my hair out.
While the rest of the family worked on decorating the tree, poor Quetzal had to listen to Ru's "ask why's." She looks thrilled, doesn't she?
Father Winter came right after their (late) dinner, and all the kids lined up to get their presents from him. Then, it's finally time for everyone to get their presents from around the tree. I got the family dressed up nice for it, because I thought that would make for pretty pictures.
The tree went up in a burst of flame, leaving only a pile of ash, which was observed by poor Ru, who everyone seems to have forgotten in their dash for safety. Horrible childrearing here.
I was able to get Quetzal to go get Ru and the parents to put out the fire. I will note, technically Ru was not alone: Clement was inside the whole time, just placidly watching as our Winterfest dreams went up in smoke.
Quetzal: "Just a minute, Ru. I know you're upset but I need to add a few more fire emojis to this selfie of us! Get it? Because there was a fire!"
Ugh. Teens.
Not everyone was done with their holiday yet without opening gifts, and for some reason they couldn't decorate any other trees I placed or put presents under them, so I just dumped a pile of presents on the scorch mark and they finished their holiday with that. A bit more eventful than I was hoping for!
And after that long evening, Quetzal is so close to making it to bed but doesn't quite get there. If that's not a good summation of their Winterfest, I don't know what is!
And that's the end of the chapter. For once, I have a Winterfest chapter at the right time. I hope your celebrations in the next few weeks are a bit more sedate than the Cabochon family's, however! Thanks for reading and check in with me at Boolprop! Bye!
